Conceived in February 2012 by local musician Jason Burke, the concept has its roots in the Songwriter’s night at The Local Restaurant. It was there that Jason met Jesse Harper, Brian Caputo, and Michael Clem, all established central Virginia musicians who, in their own right, were working to advance the craft and quality of local music.Approaching Bob Taylor in March 2012, Jason presented the format for the show: it would be akin to a famous chocolate sampler: six artists playing for 20 minutes each. Taylor agreed to a year’s worth of shows, which yielded 30 unique performances from area songwriters. In August 2013, the Six Pack Songwriter Series moved to Charlottesville’s Southern Café & Music Hall. With four concerts there and one “All Stars” show at the Paramount Theater, the show shows no sign of slowing down. The October 23 performance will mark the 10th “regular” show, featuring six newcomers to the Six Pack stage: Pat Anderson, Debra Guy, Brian Patrick, Scott Tiernan, Hunter Wolfe, and Robin Wynn. Stylistically, the content presented can be all over the map, but there’s the beauty: the diversity of Virginia songwriting.Additional information regarding the show can be found atwww.sixpacksongs.com.
